The letter to the Hebrews speaks about Jesus: “it is fitting that God for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory through His suffering that He leads all to salvation”
In His goodness and wisdom God chose to reveal Himself and make known to us the hidden purpose of His will, by which through Christ the Word made flesh, people might in the Holy Spirit have access to the Father and come to share in the Divine nature. God sent His Son, the Eternal Word to enlighten us, dwell among us and reveal to us the innermost being of God. Jesus Christ “the Word made flesh” speaks the Word of God and completes the work of salvation. The Gospel passage from St Mark presents us with the first account of an exorcism by Jesus, driving out an unclean spirit (devil). It is interesting to notethat this narrative is surroundedwith statements of the authority with which Jesus taught. “The people were astounded at his teaching for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes”.
Secondly, Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit saying: “Be silent and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him”. The Gospel goes on to say that all were amazed and kept asking one another “What is this? A new teaching – with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him”.Here we are! The unclean spirits recognized Jesus. Too often we consider ourselves Christians but we fail to recognize Jesus’ Word when it disturbs our complacency or when it hits us right between the eyes.
Where are we? Are we the people who are amazed at Jesus’ miracle only like spectators, or people who are touched by Christ’s divine grace trying to live our daily lives? Ask and pray for God’s intervention and internal healing in your life.
