Readings: Hebrews 2:14-18; Psalm 108; Mark 1:29-39
Our first reading continues the theme of this first week of ordinary time, which is that Jesus came among us as human in order to save us from our sins. The Letter to the Hebrews is aimed at the Jewish Christiansin order to inform them that Jesus indeed is the promised Savior according to the Old Testament and the one foretold by all the prophets. For our sakes he made himself a little less than the angels.
The response reminds us that God does not forget his promises. They are forever.
The Gospel tells of the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus, First, we have the calling of the first four apostles and the healing of the mother-in-law of St. Peter. Then, in today’s passage, Jesus goes on to preach the Good News and perform many works of healing. He also drives out demons and shows he has power over them. Next, he goes around proclaiming the message to all who would listen. We have heard the Good News and have followed Jesus through our baptism and reception of the sacraments. Let us go forth and continue to proclaim the Good News by our lives.
