Readings: Jeremiah 3:14-17; Psalm 31; Matthew 13:18-23
Our first reading is from the prophet Jeremiah who tells the Jewish people to return to the Lord and He will give them shepherds after his own heart who will feed them with knowledge and understanding. The Lord will make Jerusalem the center of His presence not the Ark of the Covenant. They must return to the will of the Lord not their own will.
The Responsorial Psalm speaks about the word of the Lord which leads us to the Gospel.
In the Gospel we hear the parable of the sower and how the word of God, the Kingdom, is planted in different soil. It only gives fruit when planted in good soil. Jesus says,
"this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirtyfold.” We listen to the word of God every time we come to Church. Let us continue to be open to Jesus' message and put his words into practice. Doing so will produce good fruit in us. We are the good soil and are called to produce goodness.
