Readings: 1 Kings 18:20-39; Psalm 16; Matthew 5:17-19
Last Sunday was Trinity Sunday. In our first reading today, we read about the power of the God of Israel against the pagan gods of the Old Testament, specifically the god Baal and his four hundred and fifty priests. Elijah's stand was very courageous, faith-filled, exciting, memorable, and heroic. With his prayer to God, he restored the faith in God to the people of
Israel. He showed how much God loves them and us. This first reading fills us with hope.
Psalm 16 says it all:
"Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope".
In the Gospel, Jesus says that He did not come to change the old law of Moses but to fulfill it. The Ten Commandments were a moral code. Jesus put it into two commandments: love of God and love of neighbor. We must thank the Jewish people also because they gave us the "day of rest" which no other society had before them. Let us be full of hope and faith that we will be able to get back to going to church on the day of rest soon.
God Bless you and keep keeping safe.
