Jesus replies to the scribe with the Words of Deuteronomy. If we want to understand the truth of Jesus' response, we must necessarily replace the word "love" with the word "obedience".
“Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord. You will obey the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength”. And we must replace the word “love” with the word “obedience”:
"You will love your neighbor as yourself, obeying every Law and Commandment that the Lord has given you, when he has ordered you to love your neighbor as yourself". It is the will of God that nothing must be added to his Law and nothing must be removed.
"Now, Israel, listen to the laws and norms that I teach you, so that you put them into practice ...“In fact, what great nation has the gods so close to him, as the Lord our God is close to us every time we invoke him? And which great nation has the right laws and norms like all this legislation that I am giving you today? " (read Dt 4,1.8). Without obedience to the Law of the Lord, to his Commandments, there is no love, there is no justice, there is no truth.
Jesus completed the Law of Moses. Today God and neighbor are to be loved according to the Law of Christ the Lord. Here is an example of fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets:
“In fact, I say to you: if your justice does not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. You have heard that it was said to the ancients (see 5,1-48). All the law brought to fulfillment by Christ Jesus must be lived according to the commandment of love given to us by the Holy Spirit:
“Charity is magnanimous, benevolent; not envious, does not boast, does not swell with pride, does not lack respect, does not seek her own interest, does not get angry, (1 Cor 13,4-7). The truth of love is in full obedience to Christ the Lord and the Holy Spirit. Obedience is always in the Word, according to the Word. Imagining an obedience without the Word is a monstrous falsity and lie. Those who obey love. Whoever does not obey does not love. Obedience is only to the Word. Mother of God, Angels and Saints make us obedient to every Word of Christ the Lord.
