We are fast approaching Holy Week and so today’s readings tells us about the death of Jesus on the cross. The chosen people have sinned again against God and they are called to look upon the Cross of a serpent on a pole to be healed. This is the sign of the cross of Jesus which brought us salvation and the forgiveness of our sins. The serpents are the sign of the devil who goes about hurting people, and the cross of Jesus brings us healing.
The Responsorial Psalm tells us to pray to the Lord and He will hear our prayer always and every day.
In St John’s Gospel we read that Jesus is truly from heaven and will return to the Father after His death and resurrection. He will save all humankind with his death on the cross. It will be how He returns to the Father. Let us continue to pray fast and give alms as we go into Holy Week next week. Let us go together with hearts open and full of gratitude.
God bless and take care as we look forward to Easter. Fr. Tom
