First Reading: Acts 9. 31-42
Psalm 116
Gospel: John 6.53,60-69.
After the martyrdom of St. Stephen, for fear of a worse persecution, the Apostles and disciples dispersed outside Judea and began to spread the Gospel. In this first reading we see St. Peter performing two great miracles.
1
st he cured a paralyzed man in Lydda, by the name of Aeneas saying: “
Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed.”
2
nd He raised a dead woman by the name of Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas, who was devoted to good works and acts of charity in Joppa. Peter knelt down and prayed and said to her: “
Tabitha, get up” She opened her eyes, sat up and Peter gave her his hand and helped her up.
Our Responsorial Psalm says: “
What return can I make to the Lord for all that he gives to me?” Indeed, God is doing great things in each one of us, every day and always.
In the Gospel, after the multiplication of bread, Jesus tells them: “
Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”
Many who followed Him and ate the “
bread”, hardened their hearts to believe and thus turned back and no longer went about with Him. Jesus then turned to the twelve and said to them: “
Do you also wish to go away?” Simon Peter answered him: “
Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God”.
Certainly, God is the source of our life and all goodness. Therefore, apart from Him where shall we go? In you spare time please read
Psalm 139 which reflects that wherever we go,
north, south, east, west, up or down, etc., God is there to protect us. Therefore, take courage, believe in Him and He will give you what you need. Blessings!
