Our readings today are about the generosity of God. In the first reading we see this generosity reflected in all of creation. God is always going overboard in giving to us. There aren’t just a few kinds of flowers but thousands and of every color. Look up to the sky and you can see billions of stars. Also, there are no two people alike: we are all different, one from another. God is very generous to us. So, this first reading tells us to be generous with Him. We do so when we live a good life and keep His commandments.
We begin this ordinary time with St. Mark’s Gospel. Today the Apostles ask Jesus what do they get for following him. They gave up their former lives to follow Him. What is the bottom line? Jesus tells them and us that he is generous and will give back to us a hundredfold. What is most important to us is that he includes Eternal life. What more can we ask for?
Let us think about this for today and thank the Lord for all his generosity towards us.
