We are in the season of Advent and our first reading is from the Prophet Isaiah where he begins the 11th Chapter with a listing of six gifts of the Holy Spirit, wisdom understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and fear of the Lord. This is almost 2,600 years before we have the Sacrament of Confirmation. He clearly talks about the coming of the Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He writes about a great time of peace on earth, with enemies living together. This reading is full of hope and we should be ready when Jesus comes into the world. Our response is fullness of peace forever, a true Christmas wish for the whole world.
In the Gospel, the 70 return to Jesus and told Him how they were successful in spreading the Good News. Again, we have mention of the Holy Spirit and he will reveal all that is hidden. This is very good news for each one of us. St. Luke ends this reading with those great words: "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see." Yes, we are truly blessed and are called during this Advent season to open our hearts for the coming of our Lord into our hearts.
