In the first reading, St. Paul calls on the early Christians to always say yes to Jesus and to honor their Baptism and confirmation commitments.
Our response to this is "Lord let your face shine on me." Lord, you lead me by your light and you teach me to follow your law of love. The theme of the Gospel reminds us not only to be light by our lives but also to be salt that can influence those around us. Salt is important in our diet. It runs the battery of our heart and helps our blood flow through our veins. In the time of Jesus, the Roman soldiers were paid in salt, that is “salarium" from which we get the word salary today.
So today we are called to be people of influence for good and to be light to those around us. Lastly, Jesus calls us to be like a city set on a mountain where all can see our way of life, so that we can be of good example.
Please continue to love your neighbor especially in this time of pandemic. Be salt and light as best that you can. God bless and take care. Fr. Tom
