We read in the Acts of the Apostles today that St Paul goes down to Corinth and hears about those who were baptized without receiving the Holy Spirit. They were baptized in St. John's baptism, so Paul confirmed them in the Holy Spirit by laying on the hands, the practice the bishops continue to this day. Next Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost and the birthday of the Church. Let us open our hearts again to receive the Holy Spirit in a spirit of healing.
In the Gospel, the apostles finally understand the words of Jesus. Jesus is going back to the Father in heaven so that the Holy Spirit can come down to earth and sanctify each and every one of us. The Holy Spirit is with us now keeping us safe and well in the kingdom of God.
It is in this Spirit that our faith grows and we understand how much God loves and want us to be happy forever.
In the opening prayer of our Mass today, we pray
"May the power of the Holy Spirit come to us we pray, O Lord, that we may keep your will faithfully in mind and express it in a devout way of life." Please keep safe and be careful if you go outside.
God bless you.
