Readings: Hebrews 7:1-3,15-17; Psalm 110; Mark 3:1-6
The letter to the Hebrews is concerned with proving the real priesthood of Jesus and how he was chosen by God the Father to act as high priest in our favor and offer the sacrifice of Himself for the forgiveness of our sins. He was not chosen because he was of a special tribe but because God willed it. God so loved the world that he sent his only Son to redeem us from our sins. We are thankful every day for this gift of Jesus.
Our Responsorial Psalm reminds us of the priesthood of Jesus: "You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek"
In the Gospel, Jesus is called to do a miracle on the Sabbath. He is being judged by the religious leaders to see if he follows the Law of Moses. Jesus challenges the Pharisees and He questions them: “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save life or to kill?” They do not answer him so he does good and works the miracle. As a result of his good deed the Pharisees join with others to plot against Jesus. We are all called to do good every day. Let us continue to follow Jesus and make this world a better place to live with our brothers and sisters. Happy week and God bless. Fr. Tom
