Readings: Exodus 14:5-18; Psalm 15; Matthew 12:38-42 Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees is an old saying but a good one. In the Gospel of today, Jesus has already worked many miracles and healed many people and even cast out demons. The scribes and Pharisees have been watching closely all that Jesus has been doing and teaching. His words have many references to the prophet Isaiah. They want the old kingdom of David back and the Romans kicked out of Palestine. But Jesus is preaching a new kingdom of love and peace. We need to be open to the message of Jesus and put His words in practice. Our Responsorial Psalm sings of the power and glory of our God. He is full of mighty deeds. He will protect us.
The first reading relates the flight out of Egypt by the Israelites. God shows himself as the one true God. Their faith in God will be rewarded and God will save his chosen people. In good times and in bad we need to continue to trust in Jesus who has the power to save us at all times. God bless and take care. Fr. Tom
