In our first reading, we hear that the prophet Jeremiah full of laments, even complaining about the day he was born. It seems the Lord picked him to preach to a people who did not want to hear his massage. They had fallen away from the Covenant and removed themselves from worshiping the one true God. Their hearts were far from the love of the Lord. The prophet feels he did not do a good job of bringing people the word of the Lord. He is full of laments.
God answers him with the words of the Psalm, "God is my refuge on the day of distress."
Today is the feast of St Martha and so in the Gospel we read of the raising of her brother Lazarus from the dead. St John uses this as a teaching moment for the early Church. He tells us what Jesus says:
"I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will never die.”
Like St Martha, we believe this and profess Jesus as Lord and Messiah. These are good words for us in this time of pandemic. We are counting on the Lord in these hard times. Once again, trust in the Love of Jesus for each and every one of us.
Stay well and God bless.
