In the first reading we read about how Naaman, the Syrian, was healed from leprosy by the prophet Elisha. This was to show how the God of the Jewish people was the true God and not an idol. Naaman says that "Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel".
We read in the Psalm that at the altar of God we will meet God in joy. We are always joyful in the presence of God: with his light and truth He will lead us to salvation.
In the Gospel, Jesus goes home and is rejected by his neighbors. He quotes part of the first reading about the cure of Naaman, the Syrian, by the prophet Elisha. Instead of understanding what he says, they become angry and try to kill him.
It was not his time to die for our sins yet and he walked through the middle of them. Let us pray that we will always understand the words of Jesus and walk by his light. As we start this third week of Lent, let us pray for the gift of understanding the words of Jesus so we can live a life worthy of salvation,
