Readings: Ephesians 3:1-12; Isaiah 12; Luke 12:39-48
Paul is writing from prison in Rome and is trying to build up the faith of the new Christiansin Ephesus by reminding them of all that he taught them about Christ. They are Gentiles with the same status as theChristians of Jewish origin. He told them of the mystery of God's love for them as he called them to salvation in the name of Jesus Christ. Paul is concerned with them keeping their faith and growing as a faith community. The responsorial Canticle reminds us to give thanks to God for the salvation he has given us. It tells us to "Shout aloud and sing for Joy.” In the Gospel we are told to be watchful and ready. We do not know when the Lord is returning so we must be faithful as St Paul tells the Ephesians. Jesus tells us this in parables that are clear to his disciples and listeners. So, we are called to be ready at all times and to keep the faith given to us at baptism. We have been entrusted with the good news of our salvation, let us keep it safe and spread it to those around us. God bless and keep safe. Fr. Tom
