St Paul continues to booster the faith of the new Christians in Corinth by telling them of the gift of the Holy Spirit they received in Baptism. The Holy Spirit comes with his gift that helps them discern spiritual matters and again he them and us that the Lord is just in all his ways and leads us to the everlasting kingdom. This is great hope for us.
In the Gospel, Jesus goes to Capernaum and makes it his new home as the people of Nazareth tried to kill him just before this passage of the Gospel. Again, he goes to the Temple to do the daily reading and again he speaks with authority. He does a miracle by casting out a demon who professes who he is. St Luke in his Gospel always has the demons know who Jesus is but the leaders of the Jewish people do not know who Jesus is. We thank the Lord that we know who he is and we trust in his words.
Today also is the World Day of prayer for the Care of Creation. As we take care of all the Lord has given us let us also take care of our sisters and brothers. God bless and take care. Fr. Tom
