Proverbs says that God is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. The author prays for help in refraining from lying or giving falsehood. He says: “Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food I need, or I shall be full and deny you”. He reminds us of the danger of denying God because of material things. The Gospel today is about the mission of the twelve. Jesus sends the twelve out into the world to make people face life and make decisions about themselves and the world they live in and make them look at their values. The Apostles who are to live in poverty, take nothing for their journey. Jesus gives them more authority to speak and push the people to make choices that are in line with the Gospel of Jesus. They are to preach repentance, not just sorrow for their sins but putting one’s own whole life in order. It confronts great commitments and courage. Jesus often demanded of people that they make choices. He said: “He who is not for me is against me. It is either God or Mammon. If you wish to follow me you must deny yourself and take up the cross”. A choice must be done. Right. It is a matter of values. What do I really want my life to stand for? The Apostles went out to confront the people and make decisions. The Gospel is a challenging message and needs a positive response. One of the commercials on TV says,” What is in your wallet”?So, what is your response? The Lord Jesus helps us to sow only the seeds of the Gospel. Blessings. Fr. Mussie
